VITOR JOAQUIM - is electronic experimentalist, sound and visual artist, graduated in sound and film directing, phd in computer music. He started performing improvised music and got involved in experimental art by the mid 80's. Since then, he has created extensively for dance, theater, video, installations and cross media platforms in Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium and Germany. Until now, he has 17 releases, several collaborations and a long list of participations in compilations and remixes. In 2000 he started producing his own festival EME, an event dedicated to experimental arts and non-standard music. In parallel to his own artistic work, he has been invited to advise programmers and curators on several festivals and events in Europe. He has been teaching and coordinating sound and audiovisuals in art schools since the 90's. He is a researcher in computer music at CITAR..

SYNOPSIS:

LEAFY WEFT is a four-channel video created from four photographs of leafy landscapes taken on the island of Madeira. In the video, the superimposition of the same photographic image in four opposing movements (two horizontal and two vertical) creates an abstract pattern that deceives us about the true nature of the image. When the four movements given to the image come together in their entirety, at some point halfway through the video, the photographic matrix is revealed for a few brief moments.
